Description

This course provides an overview of the history and development of the psaltic art of Greek Orthodox. Among the topics covered are: the beginnings of Chris- tian hymnography and musical composition; the main hymnographic genres; the history of neume notation; the major landmarks in the development of the various genres of psaltic composition; the life and works of the great composers; and the current state of affairs in Greek Orthodox liturgical music in Constantinople, Greece, the United States, and elsewhere.
