Description
From the beginning, the Church occupied itself with passing on to its members what it had received from the Apostles, the good news of the Gospel and all the wisdom that leads to spiritual maturity (1 Cor 2:6). Jesus Himself spoke to the disciples about submitting to the yoke of his teaching, since he was both "meek and humble of heart," so that they might enter into spiritual rest (Mat 11:28-30). The God-inspired work of admonishing, educating, and forming its members into mature followers of Christ has been one of the primary missions of the Church throughout its history. This course will focus on this mission of Christian catechesis and formation, starting with the New Testament, including the Gospels and their portraits of the followers of Jesus. St. Paul's depictions of the paths toward spritual maturity, and the Epistle to the Hebrews. We wil give special attention to the role that the reading and study of Scriptutre plays in the developmentof the Christian community and its stan
